Getting Started: New Employees

Welcome to Texas Woman’s University! The Office of Technology is committed to service. We want to help new employees navigate the many available systems and options they may need to access as they start their new position.

Where to begin?

Start by creating a Pioneer Portal account. This will create a TWU username and password. Spend some time exploring the tools and resources available in Pioneer Portal.  Shortly after a Pioneer Portal account is created, an email account will be created automatically.

Getting Help

The Office of Technology has a centralized Service Desk to answer technology questions and manage service requests. Anyone can get the help they need by calling 940.898.3971, emailing, or submitting a request through the Technology Service Catalog.

Access Systems

  • Blackboard is one of our learning management systems. Faculty accounts are created automatically at the beginning of each semester. Staff should contact the Service Desk to request an account. All employees will need to use Blackboard to complete mandatory safety training and FERPA training.
  • Our campus is transitioning to Canvas learning managment system. During the transition a list of courses being taught in Canvas is availble on the My Courses page.
  • Use Oracle (Phoenix) to manage your timesheet. Create an account online.
  • Use SQL Reports for official data queries and reports. Contact the Service Desk for access.
  • The X drive is the TWU directory of shared folders. Employees may use this for personal web-based storage. A supervisor may add employees to directories through Portal
  • Google Drive is available to all faculty, staff, and students.

Gain Access as Appropriate

  • Colleague is our student information system. If access to Colleague is appropriate for job duties, access to  WebAdvisor may also be appropriate. Request an account. Then have your supervisor request mnemonics (screens) through the Service Desk.
  • You may need to access OnBase or GMedia—our tools for document imaging. Your supervisor will need to request access on your behalf through the Service Desk.
  • If you manage a webpage, you’ll need access to Terminal4, our content management system. For access, email the web team and cc your supervisor.

We do our best to link to only the best external sites but we cannot be held responsible for the quality or accuracy of such websites.
