A Pioneer Portal account is required for all TWU students, faculty and staff to access the network and university systems.
- Students may create a Portal account 3 - 5 business days after applying to TWU through ApplyTexas.org, using the TWU Student ID you receive by email.
- Faculty and Staff can create your Portal account up to 60 days before your official start date.
To enhance security, Texas Woman’s University has enabled multi-factor authentication (MFA) for certain systems. MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a second step - like a text code or app prompt - in addition to your password.
Common methods used include Google 2-Step (2FA) and Microsoft 365 MFA.
After your portal account is active, set up MFA immediately to ensure that you have access to TWU systems.
1. Create Your Portal Account
- Go to portal.twu.edu
- Click on the Create one link
- Enter the required information:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Birth Date (on mobile: select month → year → day)
- SSN or TWU Student ID
- Password (MUST meet all of the listed requirements)
- Security Question
- Security Answer
- Click Create My Account button to finish.
Important:
After creating your account, write down or save your username, which will also be your TWU email address. This account grants access to all TWU systems.
Processing Time:
It may take several hours for your Portal account to be created. Once complete, allow about 10 minutes for access to fully activate.
Your TWU Gmail account should be ready within 1-2 hours - no additional steps needed.
2. Setup Google 2-Step Verification (2FA)
After your portal account is active, Set up 2FA immediately.
- Go to Google 2-Step Verification Setup
- Choose your preferred method:
- Google Prompt (recommended)
- Text message (SMS)
- Phone call
- Add a recovery phone and recovery email to avoid lockouts.
For detailed instructions, please follow the steps detailed in this “Turn on 2-Step Verification” help article.
Note: If Google 2FA is not setup within 2 weeks, your account will be locked, and you will have to call
Service Desk (940-898-3971) to regain access.
3. Enable Microsoft 365 MFA
TWU recommends setting up Microsoft 365 MFA using one of the following options:
- Microsoft Authenticator app
- Text (SMS) message
- Phone call
Note: You may choose a default and an additional option and change two-step verification settings anytime.
To set up Microsoft 365 MFA for your account, please follow the steps detailed in this “Set up your Microsoft 365 sign-in for multi-factor authentication” help article.
