Set Up TWU Accounts

1. Create TWU Portal Account - A TWU Portal account is required for all students, faculty and staff at TWU to log-on to the network and all other systems.

  1. Go to portal.twu.edu
  2. Click on the Create one link
  3. Fill out the required fields, follow the Password Rules, select a Secret Question and Secret Answer
  4. Click the Create My Account button to finish. 

Note: It could take several hours for the Portal account to be created. 

2. Setup Google Two-factor Authentication (2FA) - 2FA adds an extra layer of protection when accessing accounts and requires users to enter more information than just a password.  

  • After your portal account is created, Set up 2FA immediately
  • Add a recovery phone number to prevent lockouts

Note: If you do not set up Google 2FA within 2 weeks, your account will be locked, and you will have to call Service Desk (940-898-3971) for assistance.

3. Self-Service - Use Self-Service to register for classes, view grades, unofficial transcript, view financial statements, and make online payments.

  • Login instruction: Access Self-Service using your TWU Portal username (all lowercase, no “@twu.edu”) 
  • Sign in with your TWU email
  • When prompted, follow the instructions in the knowledge base to enable Microsoft 365 MFA

4.  Ensure TWU Email is working

  1. Wait 24 hours after creating your TWU Portal account before testing
  2. Sign in to your TWU email using your TWU Portal username (username@twu.edu) and TWU password
  3. Send a test message to yourself

Sign up for Pioneer Emergency Alerts

TWU Pioneer Emergency Notifications provide critical updates about campus closings due to inclement weather or other emergencies, evacuations, or campus safety situations.

  1. Go to https://pioneeralert.twu.edu
  2. Click Sign in with SSO Credentials
  3. Sign in using your TWU email address and password

Canvas Access and Support Resources

  1. Canvas: Learning Management System (LMS)
    • Allow up to 24 hours after Portal setup to access.
    • Login: twu.instructure.com
    • Recommended browser: Google Chrome for the best experience
  2. Canvas Support:
    • For login issues, contact the Service Desk at 940-898-3971
    • For other questions, support can be accessed 24/7 from the Canvas Global Navigation Help Menu through phone, chat, or a ticket form
    • Resources: Visit the Canvas Student Resources page to explore Canvas guides and additional resources
  3. Granting Delegate Access: Students can grant delegate or authorize user access to view e-bill & pay e-bill.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Portal Account Creation: 

    • Do not create a portal account until your application has been processed and confirmed. 

  • Email Issues:

    • Check email availability 24 hours after creating your TWU Portal account.
    • If your TWU email is still inactive, contact the Service Desk at 940-898-3971.
  • Contact the Registrar’s Office (940-898-3036 or registrar@twu.edu) for help with the following:

    • Incorrect birthdate format (International students should use mm/dd/yyyy format)
    • MIssing Social Security Number (SSN) causing account creation error
  • Self-Service Login Problems:

    • Confirm your username is in all lowercase and do not include “@twu.edu.”
    • Reset your password via the portal.twu.edu if needed.
  • Canvas Login Issues:
    • Ensure you are signed into Google Chrome with your TWU email.
    • Complete Google Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to access Canvas.

Pro Tips for Success

Username retrieval requires identity verification by phone (940-898-3971) or on campus.
Due to FERPA regulations, students must contact the Service Desk directly at 940-898-3971 for assistance.
