Report Phishing

If you receive an email that you suspect is phishing:

  1. Don't click any link(s) or attachment(s).
  2. Report as quickly as possible

Emails that are caught by the spam or junk folder in email do not need to be reported. For faculty and staff, any emails that are listed as spam in the Proofpoint digest do not need to be reported. 

To strengthen email security and help protect TWU from phishing and similar email threats, a new “Report Suspicious” tool is now available in both Outlook and Gmail

This feature allows you to report emails that appear suspicious. Reported messages are automatically forwarded to the TWU Information Security team for review.

How to Use the “Report Suspicious” Tool

Outlook (Desktop or Web):

  1. Open the suspicious email message
  2. In the toolbar, under the Report group, click the Report Suspicious icon

A confirmation dialog will appear: Are you sure you want to report this email? 

  1. Click Report to send the message to the TWU Information Security team

 

Gmail:

  1. Open the suspicious email message
  2. If the side panel is hidden, click the Show side panel icon in the lower-right corner.
  3. Click the Report Suspicious icon on the right side of the Gmail screen

A confirmation dialog will appear: Report Phish? 

  1. Click Report Phish to send the message to the TWU Information Security team

 

Please note: The Report Suspicious tool does not work when reporting from a public folder

To report suspicious messages found in a public folder, follow these steps: 


1.  Create a ticket or email using the ticketing system email address: ServiceDesk@twu.edu.
2.  Attach (do not forward) the spam email.

You should receive a reply confirming receipt with instructions to delete the spam email.

*To attach an email to an email in Outlook:

1.  Click New email.
2.  Click Attach item.
3.  Click the Outlook item.
4.  Double-click the email in question.

*Note ... if you feel you are being threatened in the email, please notify DPS at 940-898-2911*
