Updating iPhone Software

Connecting to TWU’s Exchange server requires iPhone software 2.1 or greater. Previous versions will need to be updated through iTunes.
1. Software version can be checked on iPhone by tapping Settings > General > About > Version.
2. Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed, (newest version available at http://www.itunes.com) then connect iPhone to computer.
3. When iTunes opens, select iPhone under Devices located on the left.
4. In the iPhone Summary pane, click Check for Update.
5. Click Download and Install. Do not disconnect iPhone until the update has finished. For more information about the update, visit http://www.apple.com/ios/.

Adding TWU Google Mail Account (syncing email, calendar, and contacts)

Note: There are known issues with Google Sync in iOS. It would be better to follow the instructions linked here or to install the Google Mail app.

Adding TWU Exchange Account (syncing email, calendar, and contacts)

Setting up a TWU Exchange Account creates a sync for TWU e-mail, calendar, and contacts.

1. At the Home screen, tap Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Add Account > Microsoft Exchange.
2. On the next screen, enter the following information:

  • Enter TWU Email address (e.g. jpioneer@twu.edu) and Description (Name the account), click Next
  • Click Sign in
  • Enter password and click Next
  • Click Save

If needed: 

  • For Server: owa.twu.edu​​​​​​
  • For Domain: students use "pioneer", faculty and staff use "fs"

Note: If still using iPhone software 2.1, Username will need to include the fs domain. Example:fs\jpioneer (To access backslash \, tap .?!23 key, then tap #+- key.)

3. iPhone will attempt to connect and “Unable to Verify Certificate.” may be received. Tap Accept.
4. On the next screen, enter owa.twu.edu in the Server field. Tap Next.
5. If “Unable to Verify Certificate” appears a second time, tap Accept.
6. Choose which items to sync. Tap Save.
iPhone is now configured.

Changing Email Sync Options (optional)

By default, the iPhone is configured to sync three days' worth of mail and one month of the calendar.

To sync email messages that are more than three days old, do the following:

1. At the Home screen, tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars
2. Under Accounts, select the TWU Exchange account.
3. Tap Mail Days to Sync.
4. Select the mail days to synchronize e-mail messages.

To sync calendar events that are more than three days old, do the following:

1. At the Home screen, tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars Under Calendar, tap Sync Calendars Under Calendar, tap Sync.
2. Select how far back to synchronize calendar events.
