Microsoft 365 for Students

​Office 365 is productivity software that provides convenient access to Microsoft applications on the go. Office 365 is free for active students, staff and faculty. Pioneers are automatically enrolled for this service.

Access Office 365

  1. Log in to Office 365 at portal.Office.com.
  2. Enter username@twu.edu and Pioneer Portal password.*
  3. Click Sign in.

TWU requires multi factor authentication for greater security.

* All passwords were reset to Portal credentials. Students previously created a unique password may now log in with their Portal password.

By rule add-ons are disabled for all Office 365 accounts at Texas Woman's.

What is included?  

How do I access these tools?  

Navigate to office.com and log on with your @twu.edu email address and password.  

What isn’t included for students?  

Microsoft applications not listed above. Additionally, Microsoft is changing its licensing structure. Effective August 1, 2024, TWU students can only use the online version of Office tools (i.e. free downloads are no longer available for TWU students).  

Are mobile apps available?  

Yes. Access your App Store or Google Play Store to find and install Microsoft applications.  

Can I still use Google Workspace applications, including GMail? 

Yes.  

What do I need to know about using Outlook for email?  

  • Access your email by  
    • Logging on with your @twu.edu email and password at office.com and clicking the Outlook icon on the left 
    • Installing the Outlook app on a mobile device 
  • The email in Outlook will start from a date in May 2024 (the date you were upgraded) 
    • All prior email will be available in GMail 
    • Sent emails from before your first login to Outlook will be in GMail 
    • Saved and archived email from before your first login to Outlook will be in GMail 
  • Your GMail and your Outlook will not sync 
    • Once you open a newly received email in Outlook, it won’t appear to be open in GMail 
    • If you send a message in Outlook, it won’t appear in GMail 
    • If you choose to use the calendar in Outlook, it won’t sync to a Google calendar 
    • It is best to use either Outlook or GMail for email and stick with it 
  • Every time you log in, you will see a message like this: 
    • To clear it, simply click the X. 
    • Do not click Turn off.  
    • If you wish to forward your TWU email to a personal email address, please use GMail.  
  • If you have access to Public Folders as a student employee, you will continue to access those folders as you have in the past. Any information about changes to public folders will be sent directly to employees.  

When does my access to Microsoft 365 end?  

As long as you are an active student, you will maintain access to TWU-provided services. To avoid data and file loss, IT Solutions strongly encourages students to limit which files are saved to services associated with their @twu.edu email address and to regularly move files from their @twu.edu-provided services (including Microsoft 365, Canvas, Google Drive, and GMail) to personally-owned services.

Security

It is best practice not to save sensitive information in the cloud, however, Office 365 is FERPA-compliant.
