Connecting to TWU VPN with Duo Security Two-Factor Authentication

Summary

Steps to connect to TWU VPN using Duo two-factor authentication.

Body

1. Obtain VPN Access

  1. If you do not have VPN access, Request VPN (Off-Site Network Connection) Access.
  2. Your supervisor must approve the access request through workflow.
You will receive a confirmation email with instructions on enrolling a device with Duo Security after your supervisor approves the request. Due to system syncing, it may take 24 hours to receive your Duo Security enrollment email. After you receive the Duo Security email, proceed to step 2.

2. Enroll in Duo two-factor authentication

  1. Open the email to enroll a device in Duo Security. Make sure that you have your mobile device nearby to verify enrollment.
  2. Click the email link to enroll a phone, tablet or other device. Step-by-step instructions are available at https://guide.duo.com/enrollment.
    • We STRONGLY encourage getting notifications by text and having notifications set to anytime, whether the app is open or not. When you connect, you have fewer than 30 seconds to acknowledge the login attempt from VPN (on your laptop) in the DUO app (on your phone).
    • DUO works with a smartphone or a tablet (landline/email won't work). Please talk with your department if you don't have/use a smartphone or a tablet and need VPN to work.
