Migrate TWU GMail Account to a Personal or Alumni GMail Account

TWU GMail Account 

  1. Start in the Inbox view.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the top right and select Settings.
  3. Under settings click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP on the top row.
  4. Select Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)
  5. Click on the Save Changes button.

After saving these changes to TWU GMail

  1. In the top right corner of the browser window, click on the user icon or photo.
  2. Select Manage your Google Account.
  3. Select Security from the left-hand column.
  4. Scroll down the page to Less secure app access and turn this access ON

Note: Google will automatically turn this off after some time if it is not being used. If there are issues in connecting using the following steps re-check this setting.

Personal GMail or Alumni GMail Account

  1. Start in the Inbox view.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the top right and select Settings.
  3. Select Accounts and Import from the top row.
    1. If you don't see this option, click the "Accounts" tab
    2. Then click "Add a mail account" in Check Mail from other Accounts and continue from Step 5
  4. Select Import mail and contacts and a new window will open.
  5. Sign into your other email account:
    1. Enter full TWU email address: username@twu.edu
    2. Wait for GMail to prompt with Gmail couldn't identify your POP server
    3. Enter TWU account password.
    4. Change POP username to full TWU email address.
    5. Change POP server to pop.gmail.com
    6. Port should be 995 and the box next to Use SSL should be checked.
    7. Click Continue.
  6. Select import options.
  7. Click Start Import.

Note: This process may take some time depending on the amount of mail you had in your TWU GMail account.

Email does not import, or a pop connection error appears

  1. Start in the Inbox view.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the top right and select Settings.
  3. Click Accounts and Import.
  4. Click edit info in the Check mail from other accounts section.
  5. Enter TWU account password in the Password section.
  6. Click Save Changes

Note: It may take a few minutes for email to start importing.
