Course Evaluation Guidelines

(Developed in partnership with the Faculty Senate and the Provost's Office) 

  Guidelines for Course Evaluations Application

  • Small classes are not eligible for evaluation. 
  • Course evaluations cannot start before the semester or course section starts.
  • Course evaluations cannot end before the course section or semester starts.
  • Course evaluations cannot start after the course section or semester ends.
  • Course evaluations cannot end after the course section or semester ends.
  • Course evaluations must be open for at least 10 days for full semesters (and 7 days in shorter semesters).
  • One cannot change the existing schedule of the course evaluation if it is starting in 6 or fewer days.
  • The latest a course evaluation can end is 7 days prior to the course section’s end date.
  • Default dates when course evaluations become available to students are:
    • Start Date: when about 2/3 of the length of the course is over;
    • End Date: 10 days after the start date for full semesters and 7 days after the start date for shorter semesters.
  • A faculty member cannot edit a question once it has been answered by at least one student.
  • A faculty member cannot delete a question from a specific course once it has been answered by at least one student.
  • A faculty member cannot add a new question to a specific course if the evaluation is starting in 1 or less days, already started, or if there has been at least one response.
  • A faculty member cannot change the evaluation start date to a date in the past.

  1. The instructor satisfactorily responded to questions. 
  2. Communication with the instructor was adequate. 
  3. The instructor assessed course progress by questioning or using other appropriate means. 
  4. The communication of information maintained my interest in the classroom or online. 
  5. The instructor made clear the applications of the subject matter to my major, to other courses, or to my life.
  6. Class assignments (homework, papers, reports, special projects, etc.) facilitated my learning. 
  7. The materials used to support assignments in the course (texts, readings, websites, etc.) were useful. 
  8. I would rate this instructor as an effective teacher. 
  9. What has been the best aspect of this course?
  10. Would you change anything about this course? If so, what would you change?
