Summary
Drive for desktop is a desktop application that allows saving and access to all Google Drive files on demand, directly from a computer through File Explorer. This means using almost no hard drive space and spend less time waiting for files to sync.
Body
Google Drive files are accessible on the computer with Drive for desktop through File Explorer. Options include:
- Save specific files and folders offline, including both My Drive and Shared drives.
- View and organize files in the computer’s file system without using storage space.
- Open files on a computer in the appropriate program.
Install Google Drive for desktop on Campus
- On a faculty/staff Windows desktop, navigate to Use Drive for desktop with work or school
- Download the appropriate Windows or Mac version
- You may be prompted for an Administrator password; If so, please navigate to techchat.twu.edu for support.
- After installation sign in using TWU email address and password
Expected Outcome: New G:\ drive viewable in File Explorer.
Tips for Macs:
- Access System preferences > Sec and privacy > Full disk access
- check under the general tab in Priv and security to make sure Google Drive for desktop is allowed
Install Google Drive for desktop off Campus

- After installation sign in using TWU email address and password
Note: Drive for desktop size limit will mirror computer's hard drive size limit. If limit is exceeded, files will need to be directly loaded to Google Drive to by pass upload size limit for drive for desktop.
