Employees are entitled to a parental leave of absence, not to exceed twelve weeks, for the birth of a natural child or the adoption of a child. This period begins with the date of birth or the adoption or foster care placement with the employee of a child. Employees may use available compensatory time, vacation or leave without pay for this period. Sick leave is strictly limited to those situations clearly falling within the definition of sick leave.  To request parental leave, complete the Parental Leave Request Form below and submit form to the TWU Benefits office.

Sick Leave Pool

The Sick Leave Pool was established to provide a source of additional sick leave to help employees and their families if a catastrophic illness or injury forces an employee to exhaust all paid leave and to lose compensation as a result. An employee is eligible to request time from the Sick Leave Pool if because of a catastrophic illness or injury or because of a previous donation of sick leave to the pool, the employee exhausts all annual accrued vacation leave, sick leave, overtime and compensatory time to which that employee is otherwise entitled.  To apply for sick pool complete the request form and ask your medical provider to complete the Sick Pool Medical Certification.  Submit both forms to the TWU Benefits office.
