Imaging process for FGS (First Generation Students) Laptops

FGS Laptop processing steps 

Run KillDisk (~1 hour) 

  1. Insert KillDisk USB, power on device and press F9 to enter boot menu, select the KillDisk USB. 

  1. Configure KillDisk setting before running: Select Erase Disk, in the Erase Disk panel select Erase Certificate. Ensure the “Save certificate as PDF to location:” is checked then select the ... and change the location to “D:\Cert”, then click Choose.  

  1. Go back to Disk Erase and click Start. Enter the key phrase “ERASE-ALL-DATA". 

  1. Once complete select “Browse” and go to the certificate to rename it with the device ID. Ex “Certificate-0025-Success-2024-10-25-14-05-16.pdf” change to “Certificate-826747twu-Success-2024-10-25-14-05-16.pdf” 

  1. Press “Okay”, shut down the device and remove the KillDisk USB. Move to Image with Win11 Home. 

  2. Image Device with Windows 11 Home 

  3. Inset Win11 USB, power on device and press F9 to enter boot menu, select the Win11 USB. 

  4. Windows Setup panel should be auto filled with English (Unites States) for Language/Time and Currency, US for Keyboard layout, select “Next”. 

  5. Click “Install Now” 

  6. Accept Microsoft Terms and click “Next” 

  7. Select Custom Install. If there are drive partitions delete all until only Drive 0 remains, click “Next” 

  8. Upon re-image remove the Win11 USB. On the first set up screen select United States and click “Yes” 

  9. For Keyboard layout select US, click “Yes” 

  10. Skip the second keyboard layout  

  11. Select a Wi-Fi network, if on TWU campus select “twunet” and connect, then click “Next” 

  12. After the initial updates have run, when the “Let’s name your device” appears, it is ready for shutdown and hand-off to FGS. Hold the power button for 10 – 15 seconds.  Students will need to follow the “FGS First time sign-in" instructions from this point.
