FGS First time sign-in (Keep in mind this process can take up to 1 hour to complete)
You will need to use a USB mouse until updates have run
When powering on the laptop for the first time, the first screen you should see is “Let’s name your device”. You can enter a name or skip for now.
At the next screen “How would you like to set up this device?” choose “Set up for personal use”
On the “Unlock your Microsoft experience” screen select “Sign in”
On the “Let’s add your Microsoft account” screen, sign in using your TWU credentials (user@twu.edu email)
On the next screen enter the code provided by Microsoft to your email. This can take a few minutes to come through. Be sure to check spam and junk folders.
If you see the “Welcome back, USER!” and you have an older personal device you’ve set up with your Microsoft account in the past, you can restore data from this device at this screen. If you wish to skip this step, scroll down and select “More options”, then select “Set up as a new PC”
You can skip the facial recognition screen if desired
Create a PIN for the device
At the “Choose privacy setting for your device” screen you can choose what data tracking you want on or off
On the “Let’s customize your experience” screen you can choose what you will be using the device for, you can skip this if desired
At the “Use your phone from your PC” screen you can set this up or skip
On the “Always have access to your recent browsing data” screen you can set this up or choose “Not now”
On the “You’re lucky: You have landed a free trial of Microsoft 365” You can select “Decline Microsoft 365”. Your @twu account gives you access to the 365 applications at Office.com
At the “Get more cloud storage with Microsoft 365 Basic” choose “Decline”
On the “Did you know you can use Microsoft 365 for free?” select “Next”
At the “Join PC Game Pass” screen you can select “Skip for now”
The next screen should be the final updates being installed. This process can take up to 30 minutes to complete
Once the updates have been completed, sign in to your new laptop. Press “Enter” and you should see your name with a box to enter the PIN you created earlier. It will take a moment to fully sign in while the PC applies updates and settings.
Once you are signed in and, on the Windows desktop, the device is yours. Feel free to make any changes and install any software needed at this point.
