Install IBM SPSS Statistics 28 on a PC or Laptop

Directions to install SPSS on a personal PC or laptop.

Body

To install SPSS on a TWU PC, contact the Technology Service Desk.

Before proceeding, log on to Google using TWU credentials.

STEP 1 - Un-install Older SPSS Versions

These instructions are subject to change by Microsoft and IBM. Navigate to the correct article for your version of Windows and follow the instructions given there

We strongly recommend a restart of your computer/laptop after you remove the older version and before you install the new version.

STEP 2 - Access the License Key

  1. Navigate to the TWU SPSS End User License Agreement:   [Works best in Chrome]
  2. Log on with TWU email and password.
  3. Read the agreement.
  4. Verify your username.
  5. Click Yes to agree to the terms of the Agreement.
  6. Optional: receive a copy of your response.
  7. Click Submit.
  8. Copy the license key provided in the form response confirmation screen to use in step #14 below

Note: These instructions are based on installing through a Chrome or IE browser. Installations through other browsers may differ slightly. 

Install SPSS 28

  1. Navigate to https://portal.twu.edu/spss.asp
  2. Log on with TWU email and password
  3. Under Windows, click SPSS 28 - 64 bit.
    • You may be asked to save the file. Please do so.
    • If you see a potential security risk warning, click to Show information, and then Allow download.
    • Open the downloaded file. Click OK if you get another warning notice.
    • These downloads work best in the Firefox or Edge browser. Recommend right-clicking the link needed below and copying the link address, then pasting in the address bar of either Firefox or Edge.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click to accept the terms in the license agreement.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Next to install to C drive.
  8. Select Install. (Click Yes if prompted)
  9. Start IBM SPSS Statistics now should be checked.
  10. Click Finish.
  11. Select Launch License Wizard. (Click Yes if prompted)
  12. In the Wizard, click Next.
  13. Authorized User License should be selected. Click Next.
  14. Paste the code into the Enter Code: text box in the SPSS window. Click Add.
    (SEE STEPS IN "Access the License Key" ABOVE to access the key. If you've already completed the form, email servicedesk@twu.edu for support)
  15. Click Next.
  16. The Authorization Status should say Successfully processed all codes.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Click Finish.
  19. Click the Start Button on the taskbar and click IBM SPSS Statistics > IBM SPSS Statistics to launch the software.
