Meals for Kids
USDA announced the launch of an online tool – the “Meals for Kids” Site Finder – to help families find free meals for children while schools are closed during the Coronavirus Emergency. The “Meals for Kids” Interactive Map directs people to local sites such as (schools, community centers etc.) where kids can get free meals. The site finder currently lists more than 20,000 meal sites from 23 states (including Texas), and more sites will be added as states submit data each week. The map is available in both English and Spanish and is a great tool for community partners who assist families in need in local communities.
Galveston County Food Bank
(409) 945-4232
The Galvestion County Food Bank on site pantry at 624 4th Avenue in Texas City is only allowing two people in the front lobby at a time to check-in or register. Then the individuals go back outside to a second door to receive prepackaged groceries. At this time, clients are not allowed into the pantry to select items themselves. At mobile truck distribution sites, where feasible, they will implement a drive-up model so clients do not get out of their cars. The clients at mobiles also do not have to physically sign to receive services at this time to limit contact and to implement social distancing. GCFB is also working with various entities to add additional mobile truck distribution sites.
Interfaith Caring Ministries
(281) 332-3881
The Interfaith Caring Ministries office and food pantry are both open at this time; but new policies are in place to protect their clients, office & pantry staff and volunteers. The office hours are Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 4:30pm; and Friday 8:30am - 1:00pm; pantry hours are Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 1:00pm. The office door will stay propped open during client appointment times to avoid contact. The pantry will be delivering the donated items to the client's vehicle rather than have the client enter the pantry building. All required documents are being emailed ahead of time to our staff; rather than the transfer of paper documents during the client appointment.
