Migrate TWU GMail Account to a Personal or Alumni GMail Account

If you're graduating, transferring, or simply want to save your TWU emails and files, Google offers tools to help you copy or transfer your data to a personal Google account.

🛠️ Option 1: Use Google Takeout Transfer (Recommended)

This method lets you copy your emails and Google Drive files from your TWU account to a personal Gmail account.

Steps:

  1. Sign in to your TWU Google account at takeout.google.com/transfer.

  2. Enter your personal Gmail address (e.g., you@gmail.com) and click "Send Code."

  3. Check your personal Gmail inbox, open the confirmation email from Google, and copy the verification code.

  4. Go back to the Takeout Transfer page and paste the code.

  5. Choose:

    • ✔️ Drive – All files you own in Google Drive

    • ✔️ Gmail – Your emails and folders

  6. Click "Start Transfer."

What to expect:

  • Your TWU data will be copied, not moved or deleted.

  • The process may take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the amount of email and Drive content being transferred.

  • You’ll get a confirmation email when the transfer is complete.

🛠️ Option 2: Use Google Takeout (Full Export)

This method lets you download all your TWU data to a computer, including Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and more.

Steps:

  1. Go to takeout.google.com and sign in with your TWU account.

  2. Select the data you want to export (e.g., Gmail, Drive).

  3. Click Next step, then choose:

    • File type: .zip

    • Delivery method: Send download link via email

  4. Click Create Export.

What to expect:

  • You’ll receive a download link via email when your archive is ready.

  • You can manually upload files to your personal Google Drive later.

âť— Important Notes

  • After graduating, your student account will deactivate, so migrate your data beforehand.

  • Some shared or restricted files may not transfer.

  • Only files you own in Drive will be copied via Takeout Transfer.
