Removing SMS or Voice Call as a Microsoft MFA Method

Summary

Learn how to remove SMS or voice calls as a Microsoft MFA method for your TWU account. Before deleting a phone method from the Microsoft Security Info page, make sure you have another authentication method set up and verified.

Body

If you currently use only SMS text messages or voice calls to complete multi-factor authentication (MFA), you should remove those methods after you have another MFA method set up. Microsoft recommends having more than one sign-in method available before removing an existing method. Do not remove your only available authentication method until another method has been successfully configured.

Mac users: Additional information about authentication options for Mac devices will be provided in the coming weeks.

Remove SMS or Voice Call

  1. Go to the Microsoft Security Info page.
  2. Sign in with your TWU email address and password.
  3. Complete MFA using your current authentication method.
  4. Under Security info, locate the phone number used for SMS and/or Phone authentication.
  5. Select the Delete option next to the phone method.
  6. Confirm that you want to remove the authentication method.

Important

Removing your phone number from Security info removes it as an MFA sign-in method. It does not change your telephone number or other contact information.
