Features

Blackboard is a web-based application which allows instructors to put class materials on the Internet. It provides a variety of tools to facilitate teaching and learning. Many courses at TWU use Blackboard. The basic tools used in a Blackboard course includes a syllabus, learning materials (documents, videos, etc.), discussions, calendar, email, announcements, grades, tests, and assignments.

Getting started

To log into Blackboard, first, open your web browser. Use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome and go to the TWU website. In the browser’s address bar type http://twu.edu and click Enter. The TWU website will open.

Click on:

  1. Info for
  2. Current Students
  3. On the page under Top Links click My Courses

The My Courses page will open. TWU uses Blackboard and Canvas to support online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses. 

From this page, click on the Log into Blackboard button. A login screen will open in a new browser window. You will have to enter your TWU Portal Username and Password and click on the Login button.

Support

There are 4 support options available:

  1. Blackboard Student Overview - Provides an introduction to the basic tools used in a Blackboard course by students.
  2. Technology Service Desk - All ways to contact the TWU Service Desk are available. This is the best option when talking to a real person would be helpful. Open the Knowledge Base to search for a solution or answer your question. This option provides a way to look up additional information on related applications in Blackboard like Blackboard Collaborate, Campus Pack, Respondus LockDown Browser, Panopto (lecture capture), TurningPoint Cloud (clickers), or Turnitin.
  3. Technology Twitter Updates - Follow the TWU Technology Twitter page for Blackboard status updates.
  4. Teaching and Learning with Technology - Visit the Teaching and Learning with Technology website to access the guide for online courses and other resources.

To search for help by topic or keyword use:

  • Blackboard Help - Provides online help for students that includes an overview of Blackboard features, step-by-step documentation by topic, and search by keyword. This is your best option to look up “how to” information for a specific topic or keyword.

Who can use it

  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Students

Faculty, students, and courses are automatically populated in Blackboard. Faculty must be officially listed with University Scheduling (http://www.twu.edu/scheduling/) as instructor of record to have automatic access to a course. Students are granted access to courses through the registration process. Staff should contact the Service Desk to request access.
