Data Transfers

Features

When a user’s computer is replaced, Office of Technology staff will ensure all files stored on the local desktop, Libraries, Favorites, or My Documents folder are transferred to the new computer. Microsoft Outlook personal folders will also be transferred. Non-standard programs cannot be transferred and must be re-installed using the original disc or setup file. Users should save all important files to network storage and only use their desktop for a temporary workspace while maintaining a consistent backup routine. If users have questions, Technology staff can elaborate and show users how to transfer their data onto the TWU network storage (X-Drive), save documents on SharePoint, or to cloud storage (Google Drive or OneDrive).

Transfers ensure data is accessible across multiple machines or devices. Transfers enable consistency between machines or devices in the event of an upgrade, replacement, or new installation.

Faculty, staff, and students may use cloud-based storage in Google Apps (Drive) and Office 365 (OneDrive) for any non-sensitive files. Cloud storage is backed up automatically.
