Voice, Video, Text Chat (Skype for Business, Google Meet, and Blackboard Collaborate)

Features

Skype for Business offers text, voice and video that make it simple to share experiences. All TWU faculty and staff have a Skype for Business account and the software is now a part of  the standard software. There is also a mobile app available which allows for text conversations to sync across devices.

Google Meet can be used to send messages, make voice and video calls, and share photos. Google Hangouts is being phased out in early 2019. Get to know and learn the difference between Google Hangouts and Google Meet.

Blackboard Collaborate can be used inside (within a course or organization) or outside of the Blackboard or Canvas LMS. Collaborate supports up to six simultaneous speakers and three simultaneous video speakers. Individuals may find Collaborate to be a convenient platform for webcasting (sharing slides, web tours, whiteboard, and sharing a desktop). Session users can be broken into groups within a Collaborate session.

Getting started

Skype for Business is available on each of the LifeSize units so that individuals outside of the University campuses can join in via video or voice call.

Get started with Google Meet.  Hangouts can be set up on most LifeSize units so that individuals outside of the University campuses can join in via video or voice call. Hangouts allow up to ten users. Users may choose to link their TWU Google account with Google Plus to increase the size of a Hangout (to fifteen), but the policy for Google Plus is different from the policy for TWU’s Google Apps for Education account.

To use Blackboard Collaborate within the Canvas LMS, simply navigate to online.twu.edu and locate your course or organization. To use Blackboard Collaborate outside of the Canvas LMS, contact the Technology Service Desk.
