Credit Hour Load Policy

Undergraduate credit hour load

  • Fall or Spring semester, an undergraduate may not enroll for more than 19 semester credit hours
  • Summer, (any combination of Summer sessions), an undergraduate may not enroll for more than 17 semester credit hours.

*Exceptions require the approval of the department chairperson, program director, or associate dean.  Exceptions will only be considered if additional course work is in the best interest of the student, and the student is in good academic standing with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the previous two semesters.

Graduate credit hour load

  • Graduate students are encouraged to consider 12 semester credit hours a maximum load but may take up to 16 credit hours during Fall, Spring, or Summer.

*Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the student's graduate advisor and the Dean of the Graduate School.

Undergraduate Students

Fall, Spring, Summer (any combination of sessions within the terms) semesters:

  • Full time: 12 + credit hours
  • Half time: 6 - 11 credit hours
  • Less than Half time: 1 - 5 credit hours

Graduate Students

Fall, Spring, Summer (any combination of sessions within the terms) semesters:

  • Full time: 9 + credit hours
  • Half time: 5 - 8 credit hours
  • Less than Half time: 1 - 4 credit hours
