Getting Started with Canvas (Students)

There are several resources available for students to get started using Canvas. You have to be registered for a course at TWU that is being taught in Canvas to log into Canvas.

The Guide to Online Learning and Canvas Guides will get you started with the basics of Canvas:

There are several ways to get started learning about several important topics in Canvas:

  1. Canvas Student Overview – This introductory Canvas course covers details on many topics including configuring notifications and installing the Canvas Student app on your mobile device.
  2. Getting Started with Canvas (Video) – This video presents an overview and demonstration of several topics covered in the Canvas Student Overview.

Step-by-step Instructions to Complete a Specific Activity:

Google Workspace

To be an effective student you will need to be familiar with Webmail. Your email is a Google Mail or Gmail account. TWU provides you unlimited access to Google Workspace. This gives you access to additional applications including Calendar, Chrome Sync, Classroom, Contacts, Drive, Docs, Forms, Groups, Sheets, Sites, Slides, Talk/Hangouts and Vault. Here are some resources:

  2. 10 Questions: Google – See how much you know about Gmail, Drive and Docs by answering these 10 online trivia questions.

The Canvas mobile application provides students a portable solution for Canvas. You can access Canvas from any browser on your Android or iOS device. However, some features may not function as expected compared to viewing Canvas in a fully supported desktop browser.

Canvas is a web-based application which allows instructors to put class materials on the Internet. It provides a variety of tools to facilitate teaching and learning. The basic tools used in a Canvas course include a syllabus, learning materials (documents, videos, etc.), discussions, calendar, inbox and notifications, announcements, grades, quizzes, and assignments. All academic courses taught at TWU use Canvas.
