Three-Way Calling Using a Single Line Phone

Tags faculty staff

Note: TWU’s telephone system supports a maximum of three parties on a conference call regardless of location. This phone must be plugged into a working single line phone jack.

To Establish a Three-Way Call

  1. Call the 1st party.
    • This procedure works if a call is placed or received from the 1st party.
  2. While still in conversation with the 1st party, ask them to wait while calling the 2nd party.
    • Do NOT put the 1st party on HOLD.
    • Press FLASH. (Listen for a rapid stutter-type dial tone.)
  3. Call the number for the 2nd party by following one of these methods:
    • Internal Call – If calling someone located on the same campus, dial the 4 digit extension. If calling someone on a different campus, dial the 2 digit campus code followed by the 4 digit extension. (Campus Codes; 81 – Denton, 82 – Dallas, 84 – Houston)
    • Local Call – Dial 9 plus the 10 digit number of the 2nd party.
    • Long Distance Call – Dial 9 +1 then the 10-digit number of the 2nd party (The system requires a 7-digit long distance authorization code after dialing the long distance phone number).
  4. After the 2nd party answers, ask them to wait while setting up the 3-way conference call.
    • Press FLASH
  5. The 3-way conference call has now been established. Each party can now listen to and speak to each other.
  6. If at any point in the conversation one party hangs up, the remaining two parties will remain on the line.
  7. To end the call(s), hang up as usual.
