What We Do

• The Center for Development, Design and Delivery (CD3) works with all instructors to incorporate technology into courses, and provides pedagogical and technical certification workshops, events, and specialized programs on a variety of topics.
• CD3 serves as the point-of-contact to seek approval for off-campus face-to-face courses and educational activities offered outside Texas.
• CD3 provides information and administrative services to online programs and future and current distance learners.

Administrative

New Distance Education (DE) Programs and Off-Campus Courses

The Center for Development, Design and Delivery (CD3) assists academic units with the procedures to offer a new distance education program (including transitioning an existing degree into DE format) and off-campus courses. An off-campus course is one in which more than 50 percent of the instruction occurs when the students and instructor(s) are in the same physical location and the location is not TWU’s main campus. This includes offering non-health related courses at TWU’s Dallas and Houston campuses.

State Authorization

CD3 handles TWU’s state authorization compliance, which is the process of gaining approval from other states to operate within their borders. “Operate” can refer to online course; face-to-face courses; internships, practicums or student teaching, etc.; research; proctored exams; and business practices such as employing faculty or staff in another state; having a branch campus; advertising and recruiting. CD3 manages TWU’s participating in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA) and makes sure TWU adheres to other state and federal regulations pertaining to state authorization and programs that prepare students to enter a licensed profession.

Canvas Administration

CD3 oversees the University’s learning management system (LMS) and integrated tools. This includes course creation, user creation, and related processes in Canvas. The LMS Manager provides immediate responses to problems and emergency situations affecting normal operations. System performance is reviewed and proactively managed.

Instructional design partners maintain, develop and implement professional development events on pedagogy. They collaborate with academic units and faculty members on issues related to teaching and learning.

Academic Unit Partnerships

The instructional design partners work with academic unit and department leaders to identify goals and objectives in order to develop personalized, unique workshops and training on topics related to teaching and learning.

Instructional Design Partners

Instructional designers partner with faculty and academic units to answer questions about teaching and learning in one-on-one consultations, small group settings, workshops
and symposiums. They are knowledgeable and can assist with:

• Designing or redesigning Canvas courses
• Aligning course content to learning objectives
• Improving assessment and measurement
• Developing learner activities to improve learner interaction
• Introducing new cloud services
• Enhancing student communication and support
• Increasing course accessibility and usability

Universal Design

Universal Design helps instructors implement their courses to be usable by all students, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or accommodation. Instructors using universal design increase usability, engagement, and access to content for everyone. Therefore, the goal of Universal Design is for instructors to use a variety of teaching methods to remove any barriers to learning and give all students equal opportunities for success.

Quality Assurance

TWU’s Distance Education Advisory Committee has created an TWU Online Course Design Checklist, which includes seventeen categories and is divided into Foundational and Advanced best practices. It is designed to provide instructors with specific course quality guidelines to design, evaluate, and/or revise their courses. We suggest you first review your course using the TWU Online Course Design Checklist before beginning the Quality Matters Review Process.

You may request that your Instructional Design Partner do a mini-review of your course using the same TWU Online Course Design Checklist. We will evaluate your course using the checklist and provide additional feedback and suggestions.

The TWU Online Course Design Checklist closely corresponds to the Quality Matters Rubric (see the Quality Matters section below), and both rely on research in online course design. After your course meets the guidelines in the checklist, you might consider presenting your course for the first step towards Quality Matters certification: an Internal QM Review.
