Abnormal AI provides an additional layer of protection for TWU email by helping identify phishing, scams, impersonation, and other email threats. The service works in the background, so there is nothing you need to install or configure.
Why Does TWU Use Abnormal AI?
Email scams can be difficult to recognize. Some messages are designed to look like they came from someone you know or trust, such as a coworker, supervisor, professor, university office, or potential employer.
These messages may ask you to:
- Provide your password or other sensitive information
- Send money or purchase gift cards
- Click a link
- Open an attachment
- Change payment or banking information
- Respond to an urgent request
Abnormal AI helps identify these types of threats and provides additional protection for university email.

Abnormal AI helps identify email threats such as:
- Phishing: Emails designed to trick you into clicking a link, opening an attachment, or providing information.
- Impersonation: Emails that pretend to come from someone you know or trust.
- Financial scams: Requests for money, gift cards, payments, or financial information.
- Credential theft: Attempts to obtain usernames, passwords, or other account information.
- Fraudulent job offers: Unexpected employment offers that request personal information or other actions.
- Business email scams: Messages that appear to come from a trusted person and ask you to take an unusual action.
What Users Need to Do
Abnormal AI works as part of TWU's email security environment. Users do not need to install software or make changes to their computers or mobile devices. Using Abnormal AI does not require users to change their TWU passwords. Continue to be cautious with unexpected emails, links, attachments, and requests for sensitive information.
Reporting Suspicious Email
If an email looks unusual, unexpected, or suspicious, use Phish Report to report it to IT Solutions Security team.
